Demands

Child trafficking destroys the lives of hundreds of thousands of young girls and boys all over the world. The traffickers and exploiters have an easy job: many people are not aware that child trafficking even takes place. Offenders are not punished since there are no laws in effect.

The campaign therefore demands that:

Child trafficking should be officially recognised as a crime. Governments should ratify international conventions aimed at protecting children and strictly implement them. This includes conventions such as the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and Convention 182 of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) that calls upon states to fight against the worst forms of child labour.
The police and judiciary should not prosecute young boys and girls who are forced into illegal activities as criminals. The victims need help, should be protected from deportation and also require legal representation.
States should set up registration offices on the national as well as international level so that missing and trafficked children can be registered. Victims of child trafficking should receive compensation for the wrongs they have suffered. The authorities should guarantee these children a safe return to their country of origin.
