Further activitiesStart Of The Campaign In Southern AfricaThe terre des hommes Campaign Against Child Trafficking in Southern Africa started with an impressive event in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique. The opening was attended by Nelson Mandela and his wife, Graça Machel, the former First Lady of Mozambique. She and Desmond Tutu, the South African Archbishop and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, have decided to become patrons of the campaign.
Partner organizations of the child relief organization of terre des hommes and many supporters from Angola, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique will participate in the campaign. Better protection for victims of child trafficking in the European Union – what do politicians say?On the occasion of the forthcoming elections for the European Parliament terre des hommes has pointed to the growing child trafficking within EU member states and the lack of adequate forms of protection and assistance for the victims.
In an open letter terre des hommes has asked all candidates for the European Parliament in Italy, France, Spain, Belgium and Germany about their opinion on this subject. They were invited to say what they are thinking of doing in order to improve the situation for trafficked children in the countries of the EU. The results of this survey amongst the candidates for the European Elections will be presented to the public. |
