Child Trafficking Projects in southern Africa

Offering Refuge

In Mozambique, girls are sometimes not even ten years old when they are sold off, mainly to be forced into prostitution. Exploitation of domestic servants is also nothing unusual. The destination for girls from Mozambique as well as neighboring countries like Zambia, Angola or Tanzania is usually the more affluent South Africa. Help to children is therefore spread in geographically neuralgic places such as Malelane in Southern Africa, about 50 km from the Mozambique border. The ‘Amazing Grace’ children’s home located there provides shelter to trafficked children deported from South Africa. Rather than being a point of transit on their way back to a life of uncertainties, ‘Amazing Grace’ wants to first restore an element of stability in the usually distressed children. They are then carefully prepared for their journey back home, where relief organizations in Mozambique help them start a new life.
